This area was originally a marine facility built to protect and study various types of marine life. Due to SOPHIA III's limited mobility in the water, Jason enters the sea on his own in search of a way to power up SOPHIA's underwater functionality.

Area 5, also known as the Man-Made Sea Area, is the fifth stage of Blaster Master, Blaster Master: Enemy Below, and Blaster Master Zero. The vast majority of the area is dominated by deep waters and powerful currents, severely hampering SOPHIA III's movement and forcing Jason to make an extended side-scrolling excursion outside of the tank, fighting tides and mutants to retrieve the Dive Gear. Area 5 is connected to Area 4 in Blaster Master and Blaster Master Zero, requiring Key/Key 1 to access; in Blaster Master Enemy Below, it is connected to Area 3, requiring the Gun 1 upgrade, and can also be accessed from Area 1. Area 5 is also connected to Area 6 in all appearances, requiring the Dive Gear maneuver.

Before they are able to destroy the earth, they need to ensure their own survival, which is why I think they are treating SOPHIA as a top-level threat.
Jason: Well, if that's the case, then it looks like we know why they are on the offensive. So, that means we gotta hurry and find where this Lord is hiding.
Eve: Yeah, and to make matters worse, it can create new mutants... We also have to consider the possibility that it could create a new mutation for itself, too.

  • In Blaster Master Zero, there is a secret conversation that can be accessed by selecting Eve's icon on the subscreen. Unlike with other optional conversations, this one has more complex criteria. Jason must leave SOPHIA III and enter the room to the left of the second Retry Point (at the bottom of Area 5); he doesn't need to be in this room, only having entered it, but he cannot be in SOPHIA III when trying to activate this conversation. By selecting Eve's icon on the subscreen, the conversation will occur. After this, Jason will be unable talk to Eve, even if in SOPHIA III. This conversation can only be viewed before fighting Hard Shell.
